CMAC – Quarantine Extension Letter #5

Dear Chandler Martial Arts Center Students,

Hope everyone had an amazing holiday weekend! Happy Passover and Happy Easter! May the next few weeks of this joyful season be a blessing on all of us.  To those among us who observed this Lenten Season: He is Risen! Enjoy the breaking of the fast!  And to those who remembered the Passover: May you have successfully found the Afikomen!

It’s Sunday night and time for our weekly quarantine update.  It looks like we are facing another week of online training as the Arizona Governor has yet to lift the stay at home order.  So we have another crazy week of online training!

To keep spirits high and energy focused- we have a new challenge to everyone: our first ever Virtual Inner Dojo Team Kata Tournament!! You read that right!! Make up your own kata- teach it to your household and then post a video of your team kata to the band Chandler Chat!! Voting will be dojo-wide after Family Class on Saturday morning— and the winner will have  Crumbl Cookies delivered to their front door that weekend!!! No joke! Who doesn’t want a fun treat like that during this celebration season?

So start creating your kata and get your family involved! I can’t wait to see what we can do when we have fun and be silly. May the best team win;-)

Happy Easter,

Atisa Vargas and Kelley Hutta

We did a good job reaching out and being kind to those not well connected this week. Let’s keep it up! Reach again!  Make a difference by being the difference!

CMAC STRONG! 💪🏽 🥋 💪🏽

CMAC – Quarantine Extension Letter #4

Dear Chandler Martial Arts Students,

Yes.. our weekly letter extending quarantine is here again.  I write this, fully thinking of the most amazing letter I will get to write one day.. the letter that announces we are back!   I quite literally CAN. NOT. WAIT!  It will be the most amazing day! But again, in the name of civic duty and loving concern for you, our martial arts family, we will do the hard thing and suspend classes in the actual dojo for another week.

But the good news?  Not only are we continuing all of our classes online… we are ADDING classes to our schedule!  No joke!  We have added new amazing members to our community during this time.. growing our family.. which is miraculous and such a blessing! But we are also growing our value to you!  It is such an exciting time to be a part of CMAC!

Look for our new Self Protection class this Tuesday night.  This is a class designed for both the martial artist as well as any non-fighters in our community.. anyone desperate to know how to defend themselves when they find themselves in a dangerous or volatile situation where they are vulnerable.  This is excellent training for anyone!  Especially now.. when people are nervous and afraid and our communities seem to be getting more and more selfish and isolated.  So much of a bad situation is won or lost in the very first initial moment.  Learn how to control your adrenaline, thoughts, and even your own marital arts training in that instant.  Taught by our own Sensei Kelly Chipman, this class will not be about traditions or formality and will be ideal for anyone that has never trained before- as well as the experienced martial artist.  Definitely, check it out!

Look for other fun classes added into our curriculum this week as we continue to work to serve you and offer you the very best training available.  You have an amazing team working tirelessly to support and lift you during this time.  It is an honor and privilege for each of them.  While all this is being done to keep you engaged and connected.. do not forget to think of those around you that may need some contact as well.  Times like this can be devastating to those less plugged into community.  We are so blessed to have one another, but think of those on the fringe of your circles that may need a text or a note… reach out to those in emotional need this week.  Let’s make it a focus as a team— as a dojo— to open our eyes to those around us that may need a call or a text from a friend.  We can make a difference if we are intentional!  We may have to be isolated but we should not be alone.  It takes only a few seconds to spread cheer and it could make a world of difference for someone. Just another way to live out our Wado Precepts by exercising Courtesy and Effort and Patience while sharing Truth!

I am so proud to be a part of such a wonderful dojo.  Please keep making a difference where you are and we will train together later this week!  Until then,

Atisa Vargas and Kelley Hutta

CMAC – Quarantine Extension Letter #3

Dear Chandler Martial Arts Center Students,

It looks like we will be continuing our online classes for another week.  Please remember that all Band App participation will count toward Belt Test on May 18, 2020.  Everyone is doing so good.. We are so impressed with all the enthusiasm and participation. It is so inspiring.  Thank you.

But, to be an encouragement to all of you as well, please be responding to in-class prompts as well as any requested class feed-back.  Even if your feedback is two days later (because that was the first free moment you had to train)….it is okay!  Engage then!  No worries on timing, just as long as your are training and writing-in when you can.  CMAC rocks!  DO NOT GIVE UP!  We got this:)

Please make sure you are also participating – as much as possible- with dojo games and other joint activities!  Being a leader is important.. and the only way to hone your leadership skills is by being the first to step out and be the example!  Bushido Club.. in last week’s LEAD lesson, we talked about the importance of being, and recognizing, the “First-Follower” in any group.  It is an important position in community, one that exercises humility as well as leadership.  Be the first to join-in and joyfully help!  The first step to leading is learning how to be the example!

Advanced Students, Bushido/LEAD, and Comp Team, please be on the look out for adjustments to classes available in the chat sections of the Band App.  There will be some changes to our online classes this week.  Look for these announcements.  Please make sure your presence is known. Thank you.

CMAC is a community of leaders!  Keep practicing your Wado Precepts in your everyday life.  As a way to close out our letter, I wanted to leave you with a reminder of our precepts:

#1.  Uphold the Principles of Propriety and Courtesy.

#2.  Cultivate the Spirit of Effort.

#3.  Perfect the Mind of Patience.

#4.  Live the Way of Truth.

#5.  Do not loose self-control or act in a violent manner.

I witnessed a sad moment in a store this week that was shocking followed by seeing some people getting impatient and aggressive while driving home.  Do not loose your identity as humble warriors in the midst of others’ fears, impatience, and lack of control.  Stay your course.  Be true to your principles.  Be the change that is needed!

CMAC – Quarantine Extension Letter #2

Dear Chandler MAC Students,

We are so grateful to all of you that keep participating and engaging with us via our band app.  Each note, photo, and comment makes us stronger and encourages all of us!  So thank you.  After reviewing the recommendations of the CDC and our civic leaders, it is clear that the responsible decision is to continue practicing our art in our virtual training classes.  Obviously, we would all rather be together as a community, but we are being asked to stay put and grow in these uncharted and uncomfortable waters.  We are separated but together.  We are strong.

We will continue to provide innovative ways to train from home!  We have a dynamic group of leaders that are working together to generate unique ways of keeping us in-shape and progressing forward in our karate skills, physical conditioning, and strength training.  We are indebted to their creative leadership and dedication to us, the student body.

Never underestimate the importance of physical, mental, and spiritual training.. so much of the fight is won and lost in how we approach the obstacle before us —no matter what or who it is.  (And more times then not, we are the Who in our own way;-)  Stay mentally strong; focused on perfecting patience and living in Truth… while staying spiritually calm, peaceful, and self controlled.  Never give up— keep pressing forward and trying hard! Speak and act politely in the face of all that’s happening around us! Don’t give in to fear and selfishness.. keep our communities healthy by being a leader:  Be the excellent example of peace, patience, and courtesy our nation needs!  You are significant and have influence.  Use it to share good around you!  As Sensei Ray repeatedly reminds us: “Karate training comes in many forms: this is just one of them!”

We are an impressive dojo- small but mighty!  We make a difference.  Keep training and we cannot wait to have the luxury to train with you again in person…until then, we will see you in our chat groups and in the next live lesson.  Keep logged into CMAC Band for the most up-to-date announcements, classes, and related karate information:

Monday Teen/Adult Live Stream Class at 6:00 PM

CMAC Bringing the Dojo to YOU!

Dear CMAC Families,

Effective Wednesday March 18, Chandler Martial Arts Center will be putting on hold all its daily operations until March 23 where the situation will be reassessed. After reviewing the safety guidelines set by the CDC and the recommendations by our government, we feel that it is our civic duty to the community to suspend training at this time.

The positive of this situation is we will be bringing the classes to you! To help keep our students active and our parents sane, we will be producing training videos and daily live streaming videos for the entire Dojo via our CMAC Band App. Our first video will be released tomorrow.

Please sign up for Band App by clicking this link:

Or look for links sent via SMS to your phones for another convenient way to sign up for Band.  This app will help keep our dojo communicating and virtually training during these weeks of quarantine. Stay connected and in the know!

We understand many people are affected by this situation, but it is our goal to bring some sense of routine back into everyone’s day. Remember, martial arts training comes in many forms; this is just one of them. It’s a great teaching moment for our kids.

Thank you all for your continuing support!
