It is my great pleasure to invite you and your competitors to participate in the Arizona Karate Championships 2025, scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Sensei Alex Tajik
We are honored to announce that Sensei Alex Tajik has been appointed as the Referee Director for the Arizona Karate Championships 2025. With his exceptional expertise, proven leadership, and longstanding dedication to the martial arts community, Sensei Tajik will uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness, and professionalism in officiating throughout the event.
Tournament Fees:
- Kata: $90 per athlete
- Kumite: $90 per athlet
- Kihon: $80 per athlete
- Additional Entry: An athlete may add a second entry (in any division) for $10
- Coach Pass: $20
- Spectator Fee: Adults $10.00 (Cash)
- Children under 4: FREE

There will be NO REFUNDS.
The doors will open at 8:00 AM and the tournament will start at 9:00 AM
Required Equipment
- Karate foam fist-guard Blue/Red/ and white foam
- Foot gear and shin guards, mouthpiece, groin cup (MANDATORY) (male), chest protectors (mal
- Head gear (OPTIONAL) for children 13 years old and under.
Referee Attire
- Grey pants
- White shirt
- Navy blue jacket
- Official tie
Coaches Attire
- Dojo warm-ups (jacket zipped)
- Coach credentials visible
- Tennis shoes
KUMITE
- 3 or 5 Judges
- Only licensed referees can serve as Center Referee or Kansa.
- No video review available.
- Three-Judge System: Referees and judges may indicate points, penalties, and jogai (out-of-bounds), unless otherwise instructed by the referee.

Match Durations & Point Limits
- Ages 7 & under (First Timers to Beginners): 1 minute — 8-point ceiling
- Ages 8 & up (Beginners, Novice to Intermediate): 1.5 minutes — 8-point
ceiling - Ages 12–13 & 14–15 (Advanced): 2 minutes — 8-point spread
- Ages 16–17 & Senior Male/Female (Advanced): 3 minutes — 8-point spread
Kumite Rules (USA-NKF Modified)
- Ages 13 & under: No contact to face, head, or neck (hand or foot)
- Ages 14–15: Controlled foot techniques with skin-touch permitted (no hand
contact) - Ages 16 & older: Controlled hand and foot techniques with skin-touch
permitted - All techniques must be delivered with absolute control
- Excessive contact will be penalized
Special Combined Division Rule
- If Intermediate & Advanced are combined: Competitors may repeat same Kata in all rounds
Restrictions
- Categories with fewer than 3 competitors may be combined at the tournament
director’s discretion - Divisions may be separated based on number of competitors, age, or height
Medals
- Awards will be presented for 1st place (Gold), 2nd place (Silver), and two 3rd
place (Bronze) winners.
Additional Regulations
- No jewelry allowed during matches
- Repecharge Rules:
- Beginner & Novice: No repecharge
- Intermediate & Advanced: Repecharge applies

KATA
- Simultaneous execution for all categories except Black Belt Advanced division
- Intermediate & Advanced categories: Repecharge applies
- All categories award two third-place medals
Category Requirements
- Beginner (Beg.): Must perform Kihon Kata — may repeat same Kata each
round - Novice (Nov.): Must perform Kata — may repeat same Kata each round
- Intermediate (Int.): Cannot perform advanced Kata (see official list) — may
repeat same Kata each round - Advanced: Must perform two different Katas across rounds; no back-to-back
repetition (optional to perform different Kata every round)
